چکیده

Objectives The aim of this study was to compare the discriminatory power of two prognostic scores, SAPS 3 and APACHE II, in surgical patients. Methods Retrospectively collected data from all surgical patients admitted to a Brazilian hospital ICU between January 2011 and December 2013 were analyzed. The standardized mortality ratio (SMR) was computed for mortality prediction. The predictive ability of the APACHE II and SAPS 3 to differentiate survivors and non-survivors was determined by the ROC curve.

Comparison of four prognostic markers in opioid poisoned patients admitted in ICU

Background: Opioid poisoning is the most common type of poisoning in intensive care units (ICUs). This group usually includes patients who have been drug abusers for a long time and now require hospitalization either because of acute overdose or due to side effects of routine opioid use. This study aimed to compare the severity and prognosis of patients using common mortality predictors Sequent...

Comparison of the performance of SAPS II, SAPS 3, APACHE II, and their customized prognostic models in a surgical intensive care unit.

BACKGROUND The Simplified Acute Physiology Score (SAPS) 3 has recently been developed, but not yet validated in surgical intensive care unit (ICU) patients. We compared the performance of SAPS 3 with SAPS II and the Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation (APACHE) II score in surgical ICU patients. METHODS Prospectively collected data from all patients admitted to a German university h...

CRITICAL CARE Comparison of the performance of SAPS II, SAPS 3, APACHE II, and their customized prognostic models in a surgical intensive care unit

Methods. Prospectively collected data from all patients admitted to a German university hospital postoperative ICU between August 2004 and December 2005 were analysed. The probability of ICU mortality was calculated for SAPS II, APACHE II, adjusted APACHE II (adj-APACHE II), SAPS 3, and SAPS 3 customized for Europe [C-SAPS3 (Eu)] using standard formulas. To improve calibration of the prognostic...

The Simplified Acute Physiology Score III Is Superior to the Simplified Acute Physiology Score II and Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation II in Predicting Surgical and ICU Mortality in the “Oldest Old”

Elderly patients in the USA account for 26-50% of all intensive care unit (ICU) admissions. The applicability of validated ICU scoring systems to predict outcomes in the "Oldest Old" is poorly documented. We evaluated the utility of three commonly used ICU scoring systems (SAPS II, SAPS III, and APACHE II) to predict clinical outcomes in patients > 90 years. 1,189 surgical procedures performed ...
